Game Developers Choice Awards Nominations Now OpenRecipients to be Announced at CMP Media's Game Developers Conference
SAN FRANCISCO, CA - January 3, 2002 - Nominations are now open for the Game Developers Choice Awards, game development's highest honors. The awards are nominated and voted on exclusively by game developers, allowing developers to recognize and be rewarded by their peers.
Nominations will be accepted through Feb 1, 2002, and are open to all professional game developers. Submission information is available online at www.gamechoiceawards.com
Developers not only create a unique new kind of entertainment, we exert an influence over technology and popular culture as well. We all know the hot games and cool characters, yet their creators often go unrecognized,'' stated Hal Barwood, project lead at LucasArts Entertainment and Awards advisory board member. ``The Game Developers Choice Awards give us, the developers, the opportunity to nominate our peers for recognition and celebration.
Presented by the International Game Developers Association (IGDA), the Game Developers Choice Awards recognize excellence and outstanding achievements in developing innovative interactive entertainment. Awards are given in the following categories:
- Lifetime Achievement Award
- IGDA Award for Community Contribution
- The First Penguin Award
- Excellence in Audio
- Excellence in Game Design
- Excellence in Level Design
- Excellence in Programming
- Excellence in Visual Arts
- Game of the Year
- Game Innovation Spotlights
- Original Game Character of the Year
- Rookie Studio Award
The overwhelming response and support we received last year helped make the awards a tremendous success,'' said Jason Della Rocca, program director, IGDA. ``This awards program is truly by game developers, for game developers.
The IGDA will present the awards on March 21, 2002, at the Gama Network's Game Developers Conference (GDC) in San Jose, CA, the world's largest conference and exposition dedicated to video game development and related industries.
